Loss of power, blue or black exhaust smoke, a whine under load and higher oil use are the usual signs. Play in the turbine shaft or oil in the intercooler pipes normally confirms it. Have the fault diagnosed first, because a blocked oil feed or a split boost hose can mimic a failed turbo.
Minor faults such as a sticking actuator can sometimes be fixed in place. Once the bearings, shaft or wheels are worn, a replacement turbo is the quicker and safer option, and an exchange unit means no waiting while yours is rebuilt.
Fitting is best left to a garage or mobile mechanic unless you have the tools and experience. The oil feed and return lines need to be clean, the oil and filter changed, and the cause of the original failure fixed, otherwise the replacement can fail the same way.
In-stock units are delivered within 24 hours of purchase to the majority of mainland UK addresses. Fitting time depends on the vehicle and how easy the turbo is to reach, so your garage can give you a better estimate.
Most units are supplied on an exchange basis, so you return your old turbo once the replacement turbocharger is fitted. It is then rebuilt and goes back into the exchange pool. We will explain the return process when you order.
